ENGAGEMENT FOR THE FUTURE

Pioneer in the field of phospholipids

The original company was founded in 1977 by Dr. Herbert Rebmann with the goal of producing phospholipids in the high-quality grades and industrial quantities necessary for pharmaceutical applications.

Today, the Ludwigshafen-based Lipoid Group is the world’s only supplier to produce the whole spectrum of natural, hydrogenated, and highly pure synthetic phospholipids. The globally present Lipoid Group employs about 500 people at four production sites – over 250 at Ludwigshafen and over 160 at Cologne – and at distribution sites in eight countries.

Phospholipids provide the essential basis for sophisticated parenteral drug delivery systems such as liposomes, mixed micelles, and lipid nanoparticles. Lipoid enabled commercialization of such complex formulations through provision of phospholipids.

These systems play a significant role, for example, in tumor therapeutics and drugs for inhalation. Moreover, Lipoid is prominently involved in Covid-19 mRNA vaccines and vaccines containing adjuvants with its products.
For the future, Lipoid will continue to develop high-value and innovative substances, systems, and applications for the benefit of the general public.

In addition, phospholipids from Lipoid have applications in dietary supplements and in high-end cosmetic products.

As a member of the Lipoid Group, Lipoid Kosmetik AG produces top-quality plant extracts and supplies phospholipids from Lipoid for cosmetic applications.

Sustainability

Use of natural, renewable raw materials

Ever since the company was founded, Lipoid has been strongly committed to the development and manufacture of natural products based on renewable raw materials. We always recommend considering the use of natural phospholipids for almost all applications. However, high-quality synthetic phospholipids are also part of our sophisticated portfolio.

Recycling of auxiliary chemicals and nearly waste-free production

Sustainability through careful and conscious handling of high-quality raw materials and auxiliary materials has always shaped our thinking and acting and is the focus of our constant process optimization. Auxiliaries are collected, purified, and reused in our value chains. By-products from manufacturing are sold to the animal food industry, reducing waste to a minimum.

Responsibility

The Lipoid Stiftung was founded in 2011 with the main purpose to support children in need worldwide. The foundation is the main owner of the Lipoid Group.

Compliance

Acting ethically and lawfully ensures our long-term success

For Lipoid, compliance means acting in accordance with external and internal standards. These can be imposed by external laws and regulations or defined by internal programs, procedures, and controls. Responsible, ethically correct, and lawful action is as elementary for the success of Lipoid as our customer orientation and the quality of our products.

The essential guidelines for our actions are therefore described in our Code of Conduct. It is mandatory for all Lipoid employees worldwide and is intended to help identify risks and thus prevent violations of the law.

Whistleblower System Compliance Violation

The Lipoid Group’s whistleblower system is responsible for reporting specific or potential legal violations by Group employees. Business partners, customers or other third parties also have the opportunity to submit reports around the clock via various reporting channels if there are concrete indications of breaches of the rules. This enables risks to be identified and addressed at an early stage and appropriate remedial action to be taken if necessary.

Confidentiality and the protection of whistleblowers are paramount here. Information can be provided anonymously here. It is our Group-wide policy not to take any steps to determine the identity of a whistleblower who reports anonymously.

In addition to managers, local compliance departments and employee representatives as traditional points of contact, the Lipoid Group employees and external whistleblowers have various reporting channels at their disposal.
