Synthetic Phospholipids

Synthetic phospholipids are molecular compounds with specific polar head groups and fatty acids generated from natural phospholipid starting material and thereby possess the natural stereochemical configuration. Due to the wide range of possible combinations, synthetic phospholipids can be prepared tailor-made for specific pharmaceutical applications.

Synthetic phospholipids are preferentially used as excipients for liposome formation, emulsification, and as technical aids in parenteral and inhalation dosage forms. Such dosage forms comprise liposomal formulations, lipid nanoparticles, mixed micelles, emulsions, and dry powders for inhalation.
