Phospholipids are the main constituents of natural lecithin, which is “generally recognized as safe” (GRAS) by the US Food and Drug Administration. In the EU, lecithin is an authorized food additive (E 322) that can be used as additive to food without limitation. In addition, phospholipids are essential building blocks of all cell membranes. As they are endogenous substances they are very well tolerated. With their lipophilic and hydrophilic properties, they serve as natural functional ingredients, e.g., as emulsifiers or liposome builders. They can thus increase the bioavailability of various nutrients.

Furthermore, phospholipids are important active ingredients. They are a natural source of essential fatty acids and other micronutrients like choline.

Lipoid offers several fluid formulations based on phospholipids which comprise either self-emulsifying systems, emulsions, or liposomes. These systems can be combined with different active ingredients to enhance their bioavailability. They are available as finished delivery systems loaded with selected nutrients or as empty formulations for the creation of customized products. In addition, these phospholipid systems show high physical stabilities, pleasant tastes, very appealing visual appearances, and are compatible with many other liquids and beverages.
